Almost Free Bathroom Makeover- Extra: Out in the Open TP Storage!!
Ok…its happened to all of us. We are in a bathroom not our own, innocently heeding nature’s call, reach for the TP… and nothing! We quickly glance around to see if there are any extra rolls stashed within easy reach. If there are, yay!…whew! Crisis averted! If not… then we are left to the dreaded drip dry…
This has certainly happened to me more than once. I hate being put in that position and I hate the idea of putting my friends and guests in that position, too!
Since I have been spending some time focusing on my Bathroom make-over as of late, I decided to muse on my easy solutions for keeping the Toilet Paper within easy reach for me and my guests!

In my problematic powder room right now, I have a cabinet hung on the wall right above the toilet. It is a storage champion, my towels live neatly stacked on top of it, the inside shelters my hair products, as well as my extensive collection of sunscreen, and an open shelf houses hand painted boxes full of bits and bobbles. I love wall-mounted cabinetry like this, they are easy to install, and feature plenty of space. I could not survive without the storage it provides. The only part of this hero of a shelf that always threw me for a loop was the towel rod right on the bottom. I didn’t need to hang a towel on it, since it is not near the sink. I hated the waste of space… but didn’t know how to best use it. Until… one day, I brought home a new pack of toilet paper shortly after hanging it.
In a burst of inspiration I unwrapped the package, put one roll on the holder and then slid the rest on top of the towel bar… they fit perfectly, were secure, within easy reach, and it looked pretty cute too!
I realize that there are different schools of thought on this. Some folks believe that having the more intimate items required in your otherwise lovely lavatory on display as tacky… that all those things should be tucked away as if nobody in their household ever has to poop. That’s right, I said it….poop… everybody does it, everybody has to pee, and NOBODY likes the humiliation of having to do either of those things in your house and then not knowing where the extra paper is if they run out. And… I certainly don’t like the idea of my guests feeling like they have to poke around under my sink or in my cabinet to find it. Besides, that is where the stuff is that I don’t want them to see!

Some more traditional TP storage are Canisters, that sit right next to the potty. I also really like this one that hooks right onto the tank, genius! However, there are plenty of options that don’t include buying a special container. In an apartment past, I used a stand-up paper towel holder I had hanging around- perfect for two or three extra rolls. Any kind of open basket will work, or just make a cute TP pyramid on the back of the tank…
Just keep it simple, keep it fun, and not only will it look appropriate, but it will make your guests feel at home and make your everyday life just a little bit easier as well!!!
Now, that is Thinking Pink!!!
